210thousandforeignstudentscameforbachelor(学士)degrees(学位),takingup47.7%ofthewhole(整体).64thousandstudentscametoChinaforMasters(硕士)andDoctoral(博士的)programsin2016.

SouthKorea,AmericaandThailandtoppedthelistofcountriessendingstudentstoChina,followedbyPakistan,India,Russia,Indonesia,Kazakhstan,JapanandVietnam.Inall,205countriesandregionshadstudentsacceptedbyChina.

130thousandforeignstudentsstudiedatkindergartens(幼儿园),primary(小学)andmiddleschools.

ThenumberofstudentsfromcountriesinvolvedintheChinainspiredBeltandRoadinitiative,alsoknownasTheSilkRoadEconomicBeltandthe21st-centuryMaritimeSilkRoad,hassignificantlyincreased.In2016,studentsfromthe64countriesintheinitiativesaw200thousandstudentscomingtoChinatostudy,representinganincreaseof13.6%comparedwithoneyearbefore.

Thenumberofforeignstudentsmajoring(专业)ineducation(教育),science(科学),engineering(工程)andagriculture(农业)alldoubled.

Thetopfivemajorswerewesternmedicine(西医),engineering,economy(经济),management(管理)andChineselanguage(中文),andsawmorethandoublethepercentageofstudents.

Chinahasputmoremoneyinscholarships(奖学金)toattractforeignstudents,andstudentsfromover183countrieswereawardedin2016,70%higherthan2012.
